Breakaway Fair Value Gaps, on MT4 and MT5, draws a small fraction of the gaps your current tool draws, and puts a running bar count on each one it keeps.

Two decisions make it what it is. The first is which gaps it accepts. The second is that it measures how long they last instead of asserting they matter.

A breakaway gap opens outside the range

An ordinary fair value gap is a three-bar hole. This one needs the hole and a location.

For a bullish gap the low of the third candle has to sit above the highest high of the previous fourteen bars, measured as of the first candle of the sequence. The gap doesn't just exist; it exists beyond everything price did in the recent past. The middle candle also has to close past the gap, which throws out the thin gaps that appear and fill inside the same hour.

That's the whole filter, and it changes the chart completely. Gaps inside a range are the ones that fill quickly and mean little, and they're the overwhelming majority. What's left is the gap left behind when price actually broke away.

Bullish and bearish breakaway gaps, drawn only where price left the 14-bar range

The number on each line is a clock

Every kept gap gets a horizontal line at its proximal edge, and the line carries a text label that is updated every bar: how many bars this gap has survived without being mitigated.

Mitigation is a close back through that edge. When it happens, the survival count is recorded and the line is removed. If the gap reaches Maximum Duration bars, 60 by default, it's dropped as having outlived the window you asked about.

So a chart with a line reading 41 is telling you that gap has been holding for forty-one bars. Not that it's good. That it's old, and getting older.

Mitigation levels with their live bar counts, and the summary panel

The panel is the point

Top right, three numbers per direction:

Column What it is
Mitigation % The share of breakaway gaps that were mitigated within the duration window
Avg. Bars How many bars they lasted on average before mitigation
Total How many breakaway gaps were found on the loaded history

That's a description of how this instrument, on this timeframe, has actually treated these gaps. Nobody can publish it for you because it differs per symbol and per timeframe, and it's the reason to run the tool over a long history before deciding what a fresh gap on your chart is worth.

Switch Use Median Duration on and the average becomes a median, which is the more honest figure when a handful of gaps survived the full sixty bars and dragged the mean up.

You won't find a win rate table in this listing, and I'd be careful with any indicator listing that has one. This panel isn't one either: it counts how long a level held, not whether a trade made money.

Ordinary FVG indicator This
Gaps drawn All of them Only those opening beyond the 14-bar range
Middle-candle rule Usually absent Required
Age of a zone Not shown A live bar count on every line
When mitigated Zone deleted, silently Counted, then deleted
Summary None Mitigation rate and average survival per direction

What it draws, and what it doesn't

A shaded box for the gap, a mitigation line at its proximal edge with the bar count, and the panel. Up to fifty boxes per direction are kept; older ones are removed.

No indicator buffers. Everything is a chart object, so iCustom gets nothing and an EA can't read the levels. Alerts are the way out.

No higher-timeframe view, no signals, no entry or stop levels. It marks gaps and it measures them.

Alerts are off when you install it

Notification type ships as Do not notificate, and the Telegram fields ship with placeholders. Turn it to Alert once you've settled on a timeframe.

The creation alert is on and the mitigation alert is off by default, which is the right way round: a gap forming is news, a gap filling is usually just time passing. The history pass is silent, so loading a year of data gives you a year of gaps and no noise.

Where it's weak

Fourteen bars is short for a range. Trend Length at 14 means "beyond the last fourteen bars", which on M5 is just over an hour. On fast charts that isn't much of a breakaway, and raising it is the first thing to try.

Mitigation is one close, with no partial state. A gap is live or gone. Price wicking deep into it and closing above counts as untouched, and there's no record that it was nearly taken.

The panel counts what's loaded. Change timeframe or restart and the totals recompute over the new window. Numbers from a 500-bar chart and a 20,000-bar chart are not comparable, and the panel doesn't say which you're looking at.

Duration is capped at 60 bars. Gaps that survive past that leave the sample entirely, so the average is an average of gaps that failed within the window. Raise Maximum Duration if you want the long survivors counted.

Fifty boxes per direction. On a long history the oldest boxes disappear from the chart, though they stay in the panel's totals.

Questions you'll have

Do Breakaway Fair Value Gaps repaint? No. Gaps are found on closed bars behind a new-bar check. The bar count on each line increases every bar, which is the clock running, not the level moving.

What does the number on the line mean? How many bars have passed since that gap formed. When the gap is mitigated the number stops and the line is removed.

Why does it draw so few gaps? Because the gap has to open beyond the highest high or lowest low of the previous fourteen bars. Most gaps form inside the range and are rejected.

What is Mitigation % in the panel? The share of breakaway gaps that were closed back through within the duration window, on the history you have loaded. It's a measurement of this chart, not a forecast.

Why aren't I getting alerts? Notification type ships as Do not notificate. Set it to Alert, or fill in the email or Telegram fields.

Can an EA read the gap levels? No. There are no indicator buffers; everything is a chart object. Use the alerts.

Best timeframe? H1 and above at the default trend length. On M5 and M15 raise Trend Length first.

MT4? Both platforms are included, one download each. Same range rule, same bar counts, same panel.
