Notus is the engine used in We let a profitable breakout strategy flip a coin for direction.
It is given away so you can repeat every test in that article on your own broker's data, not as a strategy to trade.
Backtest only. Each build runs in the strategy tester (backtest and optimisation). On a live or demo chart it stops at
start and places no order.

Notus_GR1_D1 is the parameter set used in the article. Load it rather than relying on the defaults. On MT4 and MT5 the
defaults build the daily levels on the broker's clock, while the article uses the New York close (GMT+2/+3), and that
alone moves every daily level. The preset also sets the swing-trailing buffer the article used, on all three platforms.
What the engine does
| Layer | Rule |
|---|---|
| Entry | Daily swing highs and lows. Buy stop placed inside the high, sell stop inside the low. Up to 5 pending orders per side, 35-hour expiry. Distances scale with price. |
| Stop / target | Fixed stop and target, scaled with price. |
| Breakeven | Stop moves to entry plus a small offset after a set profit. |
| Trailing stop | Trails behind price once the trade is far enough in profit. |
| Pulled target | When a trade is deep under water, the target is pulled close to price: exit on the first bounce. |
| Reversal cut | If the M1 or M15 candle containing the fill closes against the trade, close it. |
| Filter | No trading around the monthly US jobs report. |
Every management layer has its own switch, and Entry model = Random replaces the entry with a seeded coin flip. The
random generator gives the same sequence on all three platforms, so seed 7 is the same experiment everywhere.
Repeat the experiment
- Load
Notus_GR1_D1, run XAUUSD 2021–2026, real ticks if your broker provides them. - Set
Entry model = Random, any seed. Try ten seeds. - Set the breakeven trigger, trailing distance and pulled-target trigger to 0 and the reversal-cut timeframes to Off, then
run the random seed again.
